On paper,Call of Duty: VanguardZombies Season 2 seems to address a majority of the community’s problems. While players are still waiting for a server pause in Zombies, Season 2 brings a new map, a new enemy type, and the first proper easter egg to the mode. It finallyadds some Wonder Weaponsto the mix as well, with the Decimator Shield functioning like Gorod Krovi’s Dragon Shield and the legendary Ray Gun making a comeback.

However, while all of this looked promising,Call of Duty: VanguardZombies fans have had the chance to play the new content early. As such, many have been quick to express their disappointment with things like the main quest, as it lacks a boss fight and is painfully brief. Further, the Ray Gun has come under criticism for a few reasons, with the community making it very clear why there are so upset with its latest iteration.

The Ray Gun’s Appearance on Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies Roadmap

In a Reddit post discussing theroadmap forCall of Duty: VanguardZombies, several players were quick to call out how strange it was to see a Ray Gun featured as post-launch content. Since Zombies first began, the weapon’s inclusion has been a given, as gamers always expect to see it in the Mystery Box as a potential reward.Call of Duty: VanguardZombies launched without it, though, and fans have been quick to make it clear just how disappointing that is.

While it is obviously good that the Ray Gun is finally coming, the fact that it is being hyped up as a big addition reflects the current state of the mode and the issues it has had. As such, Redditors have called its spot on the road map “embarassing” and “sad.” Hopefully, future Zombies modeshave Wonder Weapons from the get-go, as this is the first time that the community has had to wait for several months after launch just to use the Ray Gun.

The Ray Gun’s Low Damage Output in Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies

As mentioned earlier,Call of Duty: VanguardZombies playershave been able to access the Season 2 content early by downloading the update and playing offline. As such, gamers have had the chance to use the game’s version of the Ray Gun, and many are disappointed by the weapon. Aside from minor criticisms like the running animation when holding the gun, its damage is shockingly low.

Throughoutthe Ray Gun’s history, it has fluctuated between being incredibly strong and painfully weak. WhileCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warfeatured a powerful version of the weapon,Call of Duty: Vanguard’s take on the Ray Gun is underpowered. With Redditors calling it a “disappointment” and “complete trash” since it struggles to kill Zombies beyond round 20 and does nothing against the new mini-boss, it seems like all the waiting for it to be added was not worth it. With basic Shotguns being far stronger than the often-sought-after Ray Gun, players will likely not be using it when they get further into their matches. Hopefully, a buff comes for it in the very near future, because right now the Ray Gun seems to be another major letdown.

Call of Duty: Vanguardis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
