Summary
The post-launch content forCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3just keeps on coming, with the highly anticipated Season 2 for the title being set to launch on February 7. This fresh season will introduce new additions across the board for the title’s wide range of multiplayer experiences, even giving some attention to game modes that have not received any love for some time.
For example, Season 2 ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is even set to add to the title’s War multiplayer mode, which has fantastic potential but clearly needs a boost to contend with the standard 6v6 gameplay that defines the franchise. With Season 2 ofModern Warfare 3bringing a brand-new map to War, February 7 is a date that fans of the mode should be very excited about.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s War Mode is Getting the Expansion it Deserves on February 7
Season 2 ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is set to be its most fruitful in terms of new content, with sweeping changes coming toWarzoneand Zombies alongside the following core multiplayer additions:
The War game mode is a staple of Sledgehammer Games' work with theCall of Dutyfranchise, first appearing in 2017’sCall of Duty: WW2. War provides a big departure from the usualCoDmultiplayer experience, featuring two large teams adopting attacking and defending roles against one another, with the attacking team having to complete a range of objectives. Both teams get a chance to attack and defend in each match, with the objectives usually involving things like escorting tanks or planting bombs on strategic sites.
While the setting ofCoD: WW2was perfect for large-scale objective-based warfare like this, it seems that Sledgehammer has struggled to take as much inspiration from the contemporary setting ofMW3. For example,WW2launched with three expansive War maps, each based on real-life battles from its titular conflict: Operation Breakout, Operation Neptune, and Operation Griffin. On the other hand,Modern Warfare 3only launched with a single War map, Operation Spearhead, and fans of the mode have only been able to play this map since the game’s launch in November 2023.
Operation Tin Man Will Turn Modern Warfare 3’s War Mode On its Head
Season 2 is set to change this, however, with Operation Tin Man being a brand-new War experience that is set to arrive with the season’s launch on February 7. Not only will Tin Man offer a change of scenery, but some of its core mechanics, such as objectives, seem to be entirely new concepts for War as a whole. The operation begins with the attacking force parachuting onto the roof of a skyscraper, for example, thenescorting an armored Wheelson vehiclethrough the complex before hacking into the building’s server room.
If successful, the attacking force will then have to fight their way out of the building and extract via helicopters, shaping up to be an explosive and unique take on War as a game mode. The ambitious changes that Tin Man is set to bring to the mode are exactly what War needed, and February 7 may just be the date that revolutionizes it asa staple ofModern Warfare 3going forward.
