Final Fantasy Type-0, a lesser-known game in theFinal Fantasyfranchise was initially released in Japan in 2010, with an American release in 2015. But despite its compelling storyline and relatable characters, it went mostly under the radar upon initial release.

However, with the proper director and team, thepotential for an anime adaptationcould finally get the game the time under the spotlight that it deserves. With so many games getting anime adaptations over the years,Type-0seems like it would benefit from the same treatment. Here’s why.

The Rundown

To summarize the overall plot ofType-0, it takes place in a world known as Orience. Fourteen teenage cadets known as “Class Zero” are tasked with the mission of defending their homeland, and retaking stolen lands from opposing countries.

In a world constantly at war with itself, the legend of an all-powerful being known as the “Agito” is prophesied to come at the “End of Days”. It’s up to Class Zero to prevent that power from falling into the wrong hands andensuring the world can reach future that’s free of war.

Urobuchi interview

An Ethically Driven Director

Given the dark themes ofType-0and the element of loss and grey morality, no one other than Gen Urobuchi would be exceptional for the job. Not only do his stories capture the hearts of his audience, but with each narrative he creates, he always manages to make even the most unlikeable characters relatable.

Urobuchi is no stranger tostories with child soldiers and the dark side of humanity’s obsession with morality. His most notable anime adaptations includePuella Magi Madoka Magica,Fate/Zero, andSuisei no Gargantia- all of which tackled the same themes. If anything, his involvement in an anime adaptation forType-0would be a perfect addition to his legacy.

Ufotable scene

Opportunity For Best Quality Visuals

This one would be a difficult verdict, unless the team had a budget for a joint collaboration between the two, eitherProduction IGorUfotablewould be the ideal choices for aType-0anime. Given how well theFinal Fantasyteam animates its scenes, a notable anime studio would have to live up to it.

Hiroyuki Asada Art

Though both Production IG and Ufotable have reputations for tastefully incorporating CGI into their works to give the viewers only the most breathtaking fight scenes. Examples of their works would includePsycho-PassandFate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works

An Artstyle That Encompass Realism and Stylistic

Final Fantasy Type-0already has an original character designer in the form of Tetsuya Nomura, though a change in art style for an anime specific anime adaptation in the style of none other than Hiroyuki Asada would makethe series stand outfrom otherFinal Fantasyanime.

Especially given just how unique his art style is, it’s significant but versatile enough to use for any genre. He is best known for his works onDororo,Cheer Danshi, andTegamibachi, all of which are different genres from each other.

Hiroyuki Sawano

Melodious Composer

Every anime needs a unique tune that sticks with the audience, and no better option than to turn to Hiroyuki Sawano ofAttack on Titanfame. His choice of instrumentals and vocals always exceed the minimum amount of creating an epic auditory narrative that immerses the audience in the moment.

For as intense a story asType-0is, Sawano’smelody will only serve to enhance the experience. The Japanese rock band, coldrainwouldn’t be a bad choice to serve as the vocalists for an opening either.

FF Type-0 Manga

The Unforgettable Legend

Arguably the biggest criticism that comes with video game adaptations is that it relies too much on games' narratives and trying to incorporate visual gameplay, rather than properly adapting the story. Sticking to the original narrative and criticism of using dedicated childhood soldiers to accomplish a wider goal should be kept, and with the manga side stories and novel that were released alongside the game, there should be no issue to incorporating those as well. In addition to that, it would also allow veterans of the game to enjoy any content that they may have missed out on or overlooked.

Square Enixnever ceases to amaze its audience with its compelling stories, unique gameplay, and unforgettable music.Final Fantasy Type-0is no exception.
