Considering all the Sony movies that have been put out over the last few years that have to do with Marvel it certainly seems as if the company has something up its sleeve. In fact, it appears that the MCU has opened the door to help Sony do what it wants to do. It seems more than likely that the company is going to introduceSpider-Maninto the Sony Marvel universe. It’s entirely possible that there might be enough cooperation between the two companies that someone likeTom Holland would eventually appearin one of those Spider-Man movies.
There have certainly been enough hints that there was going to be some kind of crossover. The most recent hint, however, seemed to also indicate that the crossover might not be coming anytime soon after all. People thought thatThe Vulture showing up inMorbiuswas the biggest hint of all. However, that turned out to be more of a misdirect than anything and so now, it would appear that if Spider-Man is going to appear in the Sony movie universe, then it’s going to be someone other than Tom Holland.

Going Back To The Spider-Man Well
There are certainly enough choices out there for Sony to make a Spider-Man movie with someone other than Tom Holland. There are more than enough choices out there in fact that they could start an entirely differentSpider-Manuniverse that could operate on its own from the MCU with no problem. In fact, the MCU handed at least two opportunities to start, or more accurately continue its own universe. Those two opportunities are none other than Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
It is of course, up to the actors as to whether or not either one of them is willing to return to the role of Peter Parker afterSpider-Man: No Way Home. Should one - and there’s reason to think it would only have to be one - or both want to return to that particular role, the MCU has set up the explanation quite nicely. Both Peter Parkers went back to their own universes and it was made very clear that neither version of the hero was hanging up his tights. There are plenty of stories that could be told focusing on either or both of those versions of Parker. With Maguire there’s a chance to show an older and wiser Webhead. Garfield could be done the same way to some extent. He’s the one that would show what it’s like to fight crime after losing someone so close to him.
The excitement over both Garfield andMaguire showing up inNo Way Homeshows that fans would absolutely eat up either one of their stories continuing. This would also mean that Sony wouldn’t have to start its own Spidey-verse and tell yet another origin story. That origin story could even be just a quick flashback or couple of scenes showing what happened in the original Garfield or Maguire movies and then a synopsis on what they’ve been doing since. It could even be done in the way thatSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Versehandled things. That would be a neat homage and a wink and a nod when it comes to explaining how the multiverse works.
Miles Morales, Come On Down!
Of course, when it comes to Sony eventually bringing its own kind of Spider-Man, it certainly seems as if they could tap into the excitement of the character with a whole other take entirely. One that hasn’t been seen live and in person just yet. The very obvious choice for that particular iteration would be alive-action Miles Morales.
Yes, the MCU beat Sony to the punch when it came to giving a voice and a face toMiles Morale inSpider-Versebut that was very obviously animation. There hasn’t been a real live Morales yet and it would certainly make some sense that there would be a bit of a race when it came to getting him on the screen first.
The multiverse has already made it clear that there are tons of Spider-Men out there. Sony has long hinted that he exists somewhere in its universe but hasn’t shown him yet. It’s the perfect reveal that would maybe even generate more excitement for the movie and the character than wheneverSpider-Man 4with Tom Holland arrives. While that film is officially in the works, there is no real info on when it might be coming. It doesn’t appear the work on the film is all that far along. Sony could still have a chance to put together its own Spider-Man film with Miles Morales as the leading character if it really wanted to.
Plenty Of Other Spider-Men To Pull From
If Sony really wanted to tread new ground when it comes to Spider-Man, there are more than a few options out there. Over the years, there have been plenty of people who have put on a Spidey costume to fight crime. There’s no need to goback to the Peter Parker well, or be accused of copying Marvel when it comes to Miles Morales. It could instead introduce one of the new Spider-Men that would then not be tied down to stories that have already appeared on screen in some way.
Ben Reilly is one direction the studio could go. He’s technically a clone of Peter Parker but there are ways to get around that. Including the fact that the studio could just take some poetic license and simply make him someone that gets his powers the same way but will have a slightly different look.
One fascinating way to go would be Mac Gargan. Usually known as the villain,The Scorpion, he was bonded with a Venom-type symbiote and decided to fight crime as a member of The Dark Avengers. It could even be a way to introduce the Sony version of the Avengers without needing to use any of those characters that appeared in the MCU.
The fact of the matter is that Sony has all kinds of different options to make their ownSpider-Manmovie or movies. It could even end up being a way for Sony to really compete on a big scale for eyes when it comes to going toe-to-toe with the MCU. It seems like a no-brainer to give it a try. The question now is whether or not Sony has the intention to actually do it.
