The Winter 2022 anime season is a few weeks from wrapping up,with many new shows set to endas we make way for Spring 2022. While it’ll be sad to see quite a few of these shows end, many anime fans are excited to see what the new season has in store for them.

With Winter 2022 coming to a close, it’s a good time to take a look at the many anime openings it’s brought with it. Openings are a big part of the anime community, and every season has its share of winners. Here are the best openings to come out of the Winter 2022 anime season.

10"Hajimari No Setsuna" (Akebi’s Sailor Uniform)

Having the voice actors or actresses perform a song for the opening is a pretty common move nowadays, andAkebi’s Sailor Uniformis no different, with the 16 cast members all singing the opening song. The tune is a standard J-pop song that wouldn’t sound out of place on an idol playlist.

Visually, the opening features the girls living school life from day to day, rendered beautifully thanks to CloverWorks' beautiful animation work. While it’s not as exciting as a battle shonen opening, it still has its own unique charm to it.

9"Midnight Dancer" (Love of Kill)

Fans of this suspenseful assassination romance immediately fell in love with this great opening sung by voice actor Toshiki Masuda. It’s an upbeat, jazzy tune with plenty of horn and piano action that is sure to get watchers out of their chairs.

Visually,Love of Kill’s opening features a lot of intense action scenes featuring the main characters Song Ryang-ha and Chateau Dankworth. The opening splices in some scenes from the anime, but it all helps to make the whole opening that much more exciting.

8"Special Force" (Miss Kuroitsu From The Monster Development Department)

Miss Kuroitsu From The Monster Development Departmentisa general parody of tokusatsu showslike Super Sentai and Kamen Rider. As a result, its opening is a straight parody of those types of shows, featuring many of the opening staples often seen in Super Sentai openings.

The song itself, performed by AXXX1S, is an energetic power-pop anthem with an incredibly catchy chorus. While the anime (and the opening as well by default) clearly suffers from a low budget, it doesn’t change how much fun this opening is.

7"Sansan Days" (My Dress-Up Darling)

My Dress-Up Darlingis easilyone of the most popular anime to come out this season, and its opening is of particularly high quality. The song is an energetic power pop tune performed by band Spira Spica, and its bouncy energy fits the personality of the anime’s lead heroine.

Visually, the opening shows the main characters going through their daily lives before turning into a reel of Marin’s various cosplays. While it’s a very simple concept, the song and its energy make it very enjoyable.

6"Gold" (Boruto)

FLOW has always been one ofNaruto’s most frequent opening theme contributors, being the band who performed now-legendary songs like “GO!!!” and “Remember” for the iconic anime series. FLOW continues this legacy for the sequel seriesBoruto, performing its tenth opening theme “Gold”.

“Gold” is an energetic power-pop tune that matches the hectic, action-packed opening scenes it’s paired with. It’s a classic anime song standard, but thanks toBorutobeing a high-budget anime, fans are treated to an amazing spectacle of color and flash.

5"Paper Sky" (Tokyo 24th Ward)

Another CloverWorks effort,Tokyo 24th Ward’s opening features a very anthemic opening theme performed by the band Survive Said The Prophet. The opening song features elements of hard rock, electronica, and synthpop, creating a tune thatmatches the anime’s futuristic cyberpunk setting.

The visuals provide a strong accompaniment to the song, matching it up with images of high-tech cybernetic interfaces and the various characters living their lives. Overall, this opening is incredibly emotive and easily one of the better openings to come out this season.

4"PAINT" (One Piece)

One Pieceis an everlasting presence in anime, and the Winter 2022 season is no different. The long-running anime started off the new year with a new opening performed by the band I Don’t Like Mondays. The song is an emotional power ballad, featuring impassioned vocals and subdued instrumentals.

One Piece’s 24th opening is more stunning visually than it is musically. The opening features imagery fromthe currently ongoing Wano arc, featuring beautiful art and animation from Toei Animation. While fans ofOne Piecemay get more out of the opening than casual viewers, it is still a great opening.

3"The Rumbling" (Attack On Titan Final Season Part 2)

Attack on Titaniscoming to its climactic conclusion, and its opening theme helps to hammer home that finality. The song is performed by alternative metal band SiM, and it is an impactful song that combines metal guitar with orchestral backing.

The opening visually contains a lot of imagery from the show, featuring its various characters and titans. It’s a perfect fit for the last season of an incredibly popular series likeAttack on Titan, which has earned accolades for its stark brutality and high-intensity action.

2"Hadaka No Yusha" (Ranking Of Kings)

Ranking of Kingsis continuing on from the Fall 2021 anime season, but its second course does come with a new opening performed by Vaundy. The song is a somber ballad that slowly turns into an awe-inspiring anthem, mimicking the emotional journey that the main character Bojji has been on throughout the series.

The opening’s visuals are incredible as well, featuring incredible animation and art by the studio that developed the first three seasons ofAttack on TitanandGreat Pretender. The imagery is touching and heartfelt, suitable forone of the best anime to come out of last year.

1"Kaze No Oto Sae Kikoenai" (Sabikui Bisco)

Sabikui Biscois easily one of the better original anime to come out in the Winter 2022 season, and its opening is similarly incredible. It’s an incredible hard rock tune performed by singer JUNNA, and it’s easily one of the most energetic songs used as an anime opening this season.

In addition, the opening has a lot of great visuals to match with the song, providing psychedelic imagery of flying whales, giant mushrooms, and big crabs. The animation is top-notch, and, when combined with the opening theme, creates an incredible amount of hype for each upcoming episode.
