Every newWorld of Warcraftexpansion has new toys and accessories for the players to collect and enjoy. Among them, mounts are especially popular. In response to the demand and also just for the fun of it,Cataclysmhas an impressive variety of both airborne and ground choices.
The new mounts that were introduced in the latest expansion toClassic WoWcan be obtained in a variety of ways that are as unique as the mounts themselves. Grind reputation, dig them up with the new Archeology profession, or win the roll when they drop from dungeon and raid bosses.
6Vashj’ir Seahorse
Essential For Travel In This Zone
This could be the easiest mount toget inWoWhistory, which is a nice change from the usual gauntlet of challenges players have come to expect for unique mounts. Finish the first quest in the new underwater zone off the west coast of the Eastern Kingdoms, after following a quest from the new central bulletin board, and get the Vashj’ir Seahorse.
It doesn’t cost anything and swims extra fast, but there is a catch. The mount is only usable in this zone.If you want a way to swim elsewhere in Azeroth, other options include the Sea Turtle mount or the trinket, The Hook Of the Master Angler, which can turn the player into a fish.
5Fossilized Raptor
Assemble 100 Fossil Archaeology Pieces
There are two mounts that players can get through the newsecondary profession of Archaeology: the Ultramarine Qiraji Battle Tank or the Fossilized Raptor. The former is a Tol’vir artifact, so the player doesn’t even have a chance to get it until they max out the skill. The latter, however, is a fossil. Players can farm artifacts from this race from even the Journeyman level, giving them an advantage.
Other raptor mounts are common in the game, especially among the Horde players as this is the Troll’s official racial mount, but this one has a twist. The Fossilized Raptor is just the bones instead of the actual dinosaur,so it’s ideal for a Forsaken, Warlock, or Shadow Priest character.
4The Spectral Steed or Spectral Wolf
Steed For Alliance, Wolf For Horde
Looking for a mount with that ghostly look, but don’t want to invest in leveling a Shadow Priest? Oneof the Spectral mountsfrom the new PvP factions is the perfect choice. It’s the same as the classic mounts from previous expansions, but with an eerie spectral skin that’s perfect for sneaking up on or terrifying enemies.
As is tradition with PvP areas, Tol Barad is looked over by two opposing factions: Hellscream’s Reach for the Horde, and Baradin’s Wardens for the Alliance.Reach Exalted reputation with either faction, and this mount becomes available for purchase.
3The Volcanic Stone Drake
A Reward For A Cataclysm Dungeon Achievement
Obtaining this mount is one of the more difficult Achievements in the newCataclysmexpansion. There are a grand total of 24 Achievements that make up “The Glory of the Cataclysm Hero.” Some of them arejust for completing dungeons, while others are for special accomplishments. It’s available to every character on an account, provided they’ve trained in Apprentice Riding. However, it should be noted that a character won’t be able to fly with this mount until they have flight training at level 40.
These are listed in the Cataclysm tab and include random Achievements like “I’m On A Diet,” which is related to one of the final boss encounters in the Heroic version of Deadmines. This is when that LFG option comes in really handy, since players would have to run theCataclysmheroics several times to get this done.
2Goblin Turbo Trike
Exclusive To Horde Characters
There’s only one place to buy a Turbo Trike, and that’s in theGoblin Slums in Orgrimmar. It’s also handy to know that the Quartermaster for the Bilgewater Cartel is also in Orgrimmar, but she’s next to the flight masters over by the new zeppelin tower.
Kall Worthaton is the Trike Dealer who has three actual mounts, and he won’t sell the player anything until they’re Exalted with the Cartel. The best way to grind that up is to purchase a tabard from the Quartermaster and run a few dungeons. Roll a Goblin character and do the low-level quests on Kezan for a head start.
1Sandstone Drake
Created With Archeology And Alchemy
The Vial of the Sands is made from an Alchemy recipe that players can find in random Canopic Jars, a common Tol’vir Archaeological item.Alchemy is required tocraft it, but not to use it, and it’s possible to sell the vial for a ridiculous amount of gold. The Sandstone Drake is also the only flying mount thatallows the player to carry a passenger, making it even more unique.
The first step in getting this mount is finding and learning the recipe, which requires a high level of Alchemy. There are several ingredients involved that can be purchased from vendors and made from other alchemical creations. The list includes various Flasks, which take expensive regents and a high skill to concoct, but if you have the patience to do it, the reward is one of the best mounts in the game.
