World of Warcraft: Dragonflightis about to bring some long-awaited changes to the warlock, one of the game’s most iconic damage-dealing classes. Soon, all playable races will be able to choose warlock as their class, leaving no stone unturned for these masters of dark magic. OneWorld of Warcraftrace, in particular, has turned some heads, as no one expected them to embrace the ways of demons and shadows.
TheDraenei inWorld of Warcraftare an exiled racenot native to Azeroth. They crash-landed on the planet years ago after fleeing their original home, Argus. They are staunch worshipers of the Light, wholly condemning any and all use of dark magic. Thus, players were initially taken aback that these religiously uncompromising paragons of faith would ever allow warlocks among their ranks.

World of Warcraft’s Draenei Warlocks Should Have a Fel-Corrupted Customization
There is, however, a creative and much-desired solution to this problem. All those millennia ago, not every one ofWorld of Warcraft’s Draenei fled Argusas the Burning Legion invaded. Many stayed behind, embracing the fel and becoming some of the Legion’s most powerful soldiers. These Eredar never took on the name of Draenei, which means “exiled”. Their skin turned from blue to red, often with veins of fel snaking across their skin, instead becoming known as Man’ari.
If Draenei players really want to be warlocks, they can assume that their character individually chose to forsake the Light, as is the case with most other races for whom becoming a warlock is generally seen as distasteful or even condemnable. Alternatively, and perhaps most intriguingly, Draeneiwarlocks inWorld of Warcraftcould instead be Man’ari Eredar who have, since the defeat of the Burning Legion, decided to lend their efforts to Azeroth. Some may wish to rekindle personal relationships with their exiled kin, while others may just seek new avenues to attain more power.
Regardless of their personal motives for doing so, it’s entirely plausible that some Eredar could return to Azeroth and fight alongsideWorld of Warcraft’s races. Warlocks in general aren’t known for their trustworthy nature, and many are keen to save lives only insofar as it benefits them. The role-playing opportunities presented by the Eredar becoming a playable option for Draenei warlocks are limitless, and certain quests could even flesh out what the demonic races have been up to since the Burning Legion’s demise.
Practically, the only customization option to change would simply be adding a red skin color to the palette of available shades when creating a look for a Draenei. It may not even be limited to warlocks, as Eredar could also logically be warriors, rogues, or mages to name a few choices. If Blizzard really wanted to knock the ball out of the park, they could add details that showed the Man’ari Eredar’s fel corruption, much likeWorld of Warcraft’s demon huntersand their choice of tattoos, scales, claws, and horns.
Right now, Eredar warlocks seem to be just a fantasy and not somethingWorld of Warcraftwill implement any time soon. But that doesn’t mean it’s never going to happen. The advent of Allied Races in Legion and Battle for Azeroth gave players a way to be different versions of already-existing races, such as with the Kul Tiran humans or Mag’har orcs. Races like night elves also got a wonderful change in being able to present as a Dark Ranger, an undead night elf that formerly served Sylvanas Windrunner. All that required was a change in skin and eye color, and now night elf players can live out their undead fantasies as they please.
There are numerous, truthfully trivial cosmetic changes thatWorld of Warcraftcould add to its playable races. Many of the already-existing ones were implemented simply because players kept asking, which sets an encouraging precedent for the game’s future. If players have learned one thing over the years, it’s that even the tiniest changes can make the game infinitely more fun to play, especially for role-players. Playable Eredar are just one way to make the upcoming warlock changes unforgettable and much appreciated by all.
