Later this year,World of Warcraftplayers that take part in the annual Hallow’s End holiday will notice that one particular aspect of the event will be rather different from years prior. The change was revealed byWorld of Warcraftplayers that logged onto the Patch 10.1.7 public test realm (PTR) to see what secrets Blizzard may have hidden in the upcoming Fury Incarnate content update.Held every year during the latter half of October, Hallow’s End isWorld of Warcraft’s take on Halloween. It is heralded as a time of celebration and reflection for both the Forsaken and the Worgen, depending on the player’s chosen faction. Looming over the festivities is the Headless Horseman, who spreads terror and sets fire to villages across Azeroth while taunting playersfrom atop his coveted mount. When Hallow’s End rolls around in the fall,World of Warcraftplayers will notice something different as they face the Headless Horseman.RELATED:Rumor: World of Warcraft Could Be Crossing Over With FortniteThe Scarlet Monastery, which serves as the home of the fanatical Scarlet Crusade and the resting place of the Headless Horseman, had some new trees and plants added on the Patch 10.1.7 PTR. According to Wowhead, the changes are limited to the graveyard section of the Forlorn Cloister, but it is the first time since theMists of Pandariaexpansion in 2012 that any part of the Scarlet Monastery received significant changes. While the graveyard usually has hostile Scarlet Crusaders scattered about, it is strangely devoid of enemies during Hallow’s End. In their place is a burning jack-o-lantern that players can use to summon the Headless Horseman and fight him. Wowhead added that the environmental changes on the PTR may be part ofWorld of Warcraft’s plannedholiday refresh that is planned for Patch 10.1.7this fall.
During theWorld of Warcraft: Classicera, Scarlet Monastery was a four-part labyrinth that required players to use caution and crowd control as they cleared each wing. As a result, it gained a reputation asone ofWorld of Warcraft’s toughest dungeonsat the time. WhenMists of Pandariawas released, the Scarlet Monastery was consolidated into two wings, and both the environment and the boss encounters were changed to fit the game’s modern era.
Between the Scarlet Monastery graveyard and the newly-crownedaspect of the black dragonflight, the Fury Incarnate update has plenty of makeovers forWorld of Warcraftplayers to take a look at. Only time will tell if and when more environmental changes to older areas will be made.
