Summary

By examining the total number of quests in theWorld of Warcraft: The War Withinbeta, oneWoWfan found that the new expansion has more quests thanDragonflight, though its main campaign is shorter. It seemsWorld of Warcraftplayers will have even more quests to dig into inThe War Within, even if more of them will not be mandatory for completing the story.

World of Warcraft: The War Withinlaunches on August 26, bringing with it several new zones, nearly a dozen dungeons, and tons of quality-of-life improvements. Among other things, it will also add tons of quests spread across Khaz Algar. Some of these quests tell the main story of the expansion, while others help to flesh out the game world by exploring side characters and cultures in the new areas.

Now thatThe War Withinis nearing release,World of Warcraftplayers have a better idea of how much story is coming in the expansion.WoWfan and content creator MrGM counted up the total number of quests found in the beta and compared it to the amount inDragonflightat launch. Right now,The War Withinhas 15 more quests thanDragonflightdid at launch, but fewer campaign chapters. It seems likeThe War Withinhas 19 more side quests, but four fewer inthe main story thanWoW: Dragonflighthad when it first came out.

This quest count inThe War Withinis subject to change before the expansion releases. It doesn’t include any prologues or epilogues not yet implemented in the beta, nor does it count quests coming in subsequent patches or updates. Even so, MrGM’s total will likely be close to the final one, if it changes at all.

The sidequests inDragonflightwere some of its strongest moments. Taivan’s Purpose, the Dragonmaw Orc quest, and the heartfelt chat with Veritistrasz were some ofthe most iconic quests inWorld of Warcraft, and were applauded by fans who did them. Many are excited to seeThe War Withindouble down on these side quests, as they do wonders for fleshing out the game world.

However, some players have concerns about the shrinking size of the campaign inThe War Within. Though it had its moments, many fans consider the main story ofDragonflightto be one of its weakest aspects, and having even less time to tell the story inThe War Withinhas players worried the campaign could suffer as well. Hopefully, the smaller size of the campaign inThe War Within– andWorld of Warcraft’s faster release cadence– won’t impact Blizzard’s ability to tell a compelling story.
