In the world ofMy Hero Academia, the overwhelming majority of people on the planet are blessed with superpowers. These powers are known as Quirks, and they come in many shapes and forms.Super strength, super speed, flight, mimicry, elemental control, beastification, and more even stranger than those.
Unfortunately, not everybody is born with cool powers. Some people are stuck with either weak, useless or even downright dangerous powers. With that in mind, here are some of the worst quirks that have appeared throughoutMy Hero Academia.
This list covers the main series, movies, and the spin-off series as well.
Updated Aug 02, 2025, by Harry Nugraha: Now that My Hero Academia has published its last chapter, we decided to look back to the old chapters and episodes of this iconic series to find some other quirks that can be considered “the worst”. We managed to find five new entries for this list, most of which are minor characters, some even only appeared in the story for a few minutes. The new additions are entries number 11 through 15, starting from Daikaku Miyagi and his Big Horns to Ms. Jokes and her Outburst.
15Outburst
Not a Suitable Quirk for a Hero
Some quirks sound good on paper but the more you consider its real-life application, especially in the context of working as a hero, the more underwhelming or even downright disappointing it becomes. Outburst is one of those quirk. Outburst allows its users to make people laugh uncontrollably to the point of being incapacitated.
At first glance, this is such a handy and wholesome ability and can probably be useful whenMs. Jokes is trying to stop a bank robberyor a hostage situation. But it is basically useless when fighting against powerful villains that can cause massive destruction like All-For-One or even Overhaul. It is also useless in a chaotic situation like the open battle in the Paranormal Liberation War. It is also fairly useless during a rescue operation after a large-scale catastrophe where the victims need first aid, rather than being incapacitated through laughter.
14Food
A Bothersome Quirk For the User’s Daily Life
Food allows its users to eat through everything. Be it a concrete wall or a slab of iron,Soramitsu Tabe can gnaw through them alluntil there’s nothing left. Thanks to this quirk, Soramitsu develops extremely sharp teeth, a strong jaw, and a stomach that can instantly pulverize anything he eats.
While this is certainly a quirk that is quite remarkable in combat, it is actually a nightmare for Soramitsu’s everyday life. No matter how much food he eats, he will never feel satisfied and always feel hungry. That’s why Soramitsu ended up suffering through deteriorating mental and physical health. It gets so bad that he is basically just a skin and bones who is constantly on the verge of a mental breakdown now.
13Stiffening
An Awkward Quirk to Use in Battle
Shikkui Makabe is a third-year student of the Hero Courseat the Ketsubutsu Academy High School.His quirk is called “Stiffenning”, and as the name suggests, it allows him to harden anything he touches, by kneading the object with both of his hands first. With this quirk, Shikkui Makabe can turn a paper ball into a concrete ball.
However, having a steel ball or a concrete ball is just the beginning. He has to do something with it, like throw it or hit somebody with it, so he might as well find a piece of hard object in the first place. Not only that, but the fact that he has to knead the object first makes this quirk awkward to use during combat. The thought of Makabe furiously kneading scraps of paper while the other heroes frantically fight the rampaging Shigaraki is simply hilarious.
12Blade
An Utterly Useless Quirk
During the Shie Hassaikai arc,Fat Gum, Sun Eater, and Red Riot stumble upon a group of street thugs in the middle of their robbery attempt. One of those thugs is an unnamed young man with his unremarkable blade quirk. This quirk allows this young thug to pop up three blades on his arms that can extend up to 10 cm (~4 inches) in length.
While having mini blades on your arms may sound cool, it is actually a lot more cumbersome and impractical than you might think. For starters, this quirk is basically useless in his everyday life simply due to the awkward placement of the mini-blades. For combat, it might be useful as a means of defense, but if he wants to use it for offense, he has to be super close to the opponents, at which point, he will get punched in the face, which is precisely what Red Riot does to him. All in all, an utterly useless quirk indeed.
11Big Horn
A Cumbersome Quirk
In the world of My Hero Academia, there’sa middle-aged newscaster named Daikaku Miyagiwho often appears on TV to report the latest news on heroes and villains. Old man Daikaku’s quirk is called Big Horn, and as the name suggests, his quirk gives him a pair of big horns that protrude out of his forehead.
As far as we know, these horns have no other power or abilities other than being a pair of regular ol’ horns. It may increase his headbutt power, but since he is an old newscaster, there’s hardly any need for him to use this supposed power. If anything, these big horns surely make his everyday life more cumbersome than it needs to be. From his inability to wear any hats to accidentally hitting something, or someone, whenever he bows his head, Daikaku’s big horns are nothing but a nuisance to him, which is why he decided to cut one of the horns.
10Pop Off
A Quirk For Sidekicks At Best
Now it’s time for one that everybody knows will be on the list,Minoru Mineta’s Pop Off. This quirk allows Mineta to produce and pluck off sticky ball-like substances from his head. This ball will stick to any object, apart from Minoru himself. In a battle, Minoru will throw these sticky balls to incapacitate his opponents.
Minoru is a small boy with below-average strength and speed. This means any villains worth their salt should be able to avoid Minoru’s throw with ease. Besides, there’s a limit to how many balls Minoru can produce at any given moment, which means when he’s up against multiple opponents at the same time, he’s pretty much useless. Pop Off is an acceptable quirk for a sidekick, but it is definitely not a suitable quirk for a hero.
9Sugar Rush
One Of The Most Inconvenient Quirks Ever
The next hero-in-training with the worst quirk isRikido Sato and his quirk, Sugar Rush. This quirk allows Rikido to increase his strength fivefold whenever he consumes ten grams of sugar. Rikido’s enhanced strength is powerful enough to the point that he can send a villain flying with a single punch.
Having to consume sugar every time he’s about to face an opponent is already a major hassle. There’s another huge shortcoming of Rikido’s Sugar Rush. Apparently, that increased strength only happens for a mere three minutes. Not only that but consuming all of that sugar will also bring a sugar crash later on that will make Rikido feel extra tired and sleepy afterward. Inconvenient is an understatement.
8Telescopic
A Sorry Excuse Of A Defense
Tatami Nakagame is a hero candidate fromthe Ketsubutsu Academy High School. Her quirk is called Telescopic, but it has nothing to do with the telescope. On the contrary, this quirk allows Tatami to retract her head and limbs into her torso, just like a turtle.
Tatami is quite impervious to physical attacks while in her turtle-like form. However, this form also means she can only defend. Her opponent can freely throw her, torch her, drown her, and there’s nothing she can do about it. What’s even worse is the fact that while the retracting process is pretty much instantaneous, extending her head and limbs back actually takes some time.
7Love
Useful Only To One Person
La Brava is one of the minor villains that recently makes a comeback in the story. She often works together with her partner in crime and the love of her life, a man known as Gentle Criminal. La Brava’s quirk is known simply as Love. It is a support-type quirk that can boost the power of the one she loves multiple folds. The more intense her love for that person, the stronger the buff will be.
However, since La Brava only loves Gentle, this means her quirk only works on a single person. She can’t even use her quirk on herself. As if that’s not annoying enough, La Brava can only activate her power once a day. Furthermore, that super boost will only last for a rather short time. So many limitations to such a meager effect.
6Zoom
A Quirk That Is Useless To Its Wielder
Mei Hatsume is a student fromthe Department of Support at U.A. High School. She is the one who is responsible for creating Deku’s Air Force Gloves and Iron Soles, among other things. Mei’s quirk is called Zoom. As the name suggests, this quirk allows her to zoom in on any object that is far away from her. If she is truly concentrated, she can even see objects that are 5 km away.
This ability sounds quite neat until one realizes that a regular modern binocular can easily see objects that are 10 km away. Besides, as an inventor who spends most of her day holed up in her workshop, there’s hardly any situation that requires Mei to use her quirk on a day-to-day basis. So in a way, this quirk is pretty much useless to its wielder.
