Halo Infinitehas taken hits from players and critics alike for its flaws and shortcomings, nothing atypical for the industry. However, jumping in on the criticism is none other than the fast-food chain Wendy’s, roasting Xbox andHalo Infinitefor the game’s lack of campaign co-op.

Those who have been on the internet in the last two months have likely heard about the back-and-forth reception ofHalo Infinite. On one hand, it is perhaps the best playingHalogame ever made, perfectly marrying the traditional gameplay with modern movement and mechanic upgrades. On the other hand though,Halo Infiniteis held backby some questionable design choices, from the restrictive armor customization, to a lack of features like working custom games and Forge. Much of the frustration comes from the long wait sinceHalo 5: Guardians, when in all actuality, the game seems like it could have used more time in the oven.

Janurary 12 was National Roast Day, and for some reason Xbox let Wendy’s take a shot at it, and the fast-food chain didn’t disappoint. An almost fearful sounding Xbox responded to Wendy’s call for roastees on Twitter, writing punctually, “Fine. Let’s do this.” Two minutes later, Wendy’s replies, “Wanna co-op this newHalocampaign?” to which Xbox simply returns an overlapping image ofHalo Infinite’s The Weapon looking shocked and disgusted. Over the summer, 343 Industries announcedHalo Infinitewould not launch with campaign co-opand that it would be coming sometime in 2022.

In the replies to Wendy’s roast are over 100 reactions, the predominant feeling being that Xbox was sufficiently roasted. Things are a bit more serious in the comments of Xbox’s response, the majority of people voicing opinions of either disappointment or justification. Despite the year long delay that pushed the game’s release from 2020 to 2021, as mentioned most players agree thatHalo Infiniteis fun but unfinished, and Wendy’s roast hits right to the bone of the game’s issues.

Observing the situation as a whole, it is perfectly fine to find this interaction between Wendy’s and Xbox to be funny; Xbox knew what it was getting itself into when it replied to Wendy’s request for people to be roasted. At the same time, the roast highlights a legitmate shortcoming of the game currently, and so it is also okay to be mad that co-op isn’t an available feature yet. Maybe whencampaign co-op does eventually come toHalo Infinite, Wendy’s will come back to this post and ask again if Xbox wants to play. That would be a pretty happy ending to this story.

Halo Infiniteis available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
