Fans ofThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildhave noticed that it seems like there are barely any elderly Rito. WithThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Nintendo revamped the standard formula of aZeldagame to create what some believe is one of themost immersive open worlds of all time. This allowed fans to truly inspect their surroundings and the land’s inhabitants in a completely different way.

Zeldalore runs deep, but sometimes players have to read between the lines and truly pay attention to the details touncover some ofBreath of the Wild’s mysteries. A way to learn more about the history of Hyrule and gather information is to talk to the characters that live in the villages. Oftentimes they will share life experiences with Link and reminisce about how things used to be when they were younger. Some of them have been around for a long, long time and will be able to provide some useful insight.

Fans have noticed that there is one race in particular that has very few older individuals to talk to, and that’s the Rito. InBreath of the Wild, there is only one senior citizen in theRito Village- Kaneli, the Rito Chieftain. Kaneli looks quite different compared to the younger people in his tribe; he resembles an owl rather than a hawk. The fact that he is considered the village elder adds to the speculation that he could be exceptionally old for his race.

According to the lore, the Rito evolved from the Zora, as they had to learn to fly in order to thrive after the Great Flood, but it seems that they don’t live as long as their predecessors. TheRito first appeared inThe Wind Waker; the tribe lived on Dragon Roost Island, where there were also no elders. In the game, the oldest Rito mentioned is the Chieftain’s mother-in-law, who had just passed away.

It is unknown whether the Rito tend to perish due to natural causes or if they simply become too weak after overworking their bodies; most Rito are warriors and spend their lives fighting evil beings in the dangerous land of Hyrule. Hopefully,Breath of the Wild’s sequel,Tears of the Kingdom, will give fans more information on how long the Rito are expected to live.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildis available on Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
